| Resumen: | Baseando-se no aporte teórico da Teoria das Representações Sociais, o presente estudo tem objetivou conhecer as representações sociais de brasileiros, europeus e imigrantes, além das metarrepresentações de brasileiros e imigrantes para 180 brasileiros residentes em seis países da Europa. Para tanto, utilizou-se um questionário semiestruturado contendo perguntas de associação livre para os objetos de representação. Os resultados demonstram que os brasileiros positivam os grupos brasileiro e imigrante pela via do afeto e elevação de seu status social. As metarrepresentações de imigrantes afirmam a imagem de indesejabilidade do grupo por parte dos europeus e as metarrepresentações de brasileiros, por sua vez, apontam para significados que objetificam as mulheres brasileiras a partir da imagem do sexo e da prostituição. Concluise que as representações sociais a respeito dos grupos sociais em análise favorecem a discussão da função identitária das representações por apresentarem conteúdo polêmico a respeito dos grupos sociais que atuam como minoritários frente à sociedade hegemônica europeia. (AU)^iptBased on the theoretical contribution of the Social Representations Theory, the study aimed, to identify the social representations of Brazilians, Europeans and immigrants, in addition to the meta-representations of Brazilians and immigrants made to 180 Brazilians residing in six European countries. To do this we used a semi-structured questionnaire with free association questions for the representation of objects. The results show that Brazilians consider positively the groups of immigrants and Brazilians through affection and higher social status. The meta-representations of immigrants affirm an image of undesirability of the group on the part of Europeans; and the meta-representations of Brazilians, in turn, are oriented toward meanings that objectify Brazilian women through an image of sex and prostitution. It was concluded that the social representations – in relation to the social groups analyzed – favor the discussion of the identity function related representations, by having submitted a controversial content relating to the social groups that act as a minority against a hegemonic European society.
